A vital aspect of all art, whether visual or written, is the selection of key details that allow the audience to imagine the whole picture. Great works of literature allude to character traits and situations but leave the reader to work out the fine points. In art, great paintings make sure that each and every line counts and that there is not a stroke too many. The genre of minimalism developed as an attempt to reduce art to its very core; to distil the scenes and images to their absolute essence. In the works exhibited here, we see a great many variations on this theme, with abstract lines and forms being used to express emotions or issues. These paintings show the artist’s skill in choosing just the right form and colour in order to make a beautiful image. There can be no doubt that the art here is stylish and would grace any office space or home. Great things can happen when people leave out the detail and go straight to the heart of a scene.
