Almost defying words, these are landscapes of the utmost delicacy and subtletly that testify to the best kind of artistic visual intelligence. They are surely of the same order as Derek Jarman's vision of Dungeness. Sometimes adding bitumen, varnish or gloss paint to her oils to be able to create the kind of texture she seeks, Patricia's work has an underplayed humility yet her vision is powerful and stark. Her rendering of 'textual reed-beds and salt-marsh estuaries' combined with her poetic titles are highly evocative of the East Anglian landscape.
