Michael Coxon's paintings are renditions of landscapes and everyday scenes set mostly in Japan but also encompassing some images made of Australia. Atmospheric weather conditions are evidenced in works such as "Afternnon Storm, Karuizawa" and "The Track, Karuizawa". There is also a pre-occupation with capturing the look and cool of the Tokyo youth with their up-to-the-minute- clothing styles, hanging out nonchalantly in the mall. Overall, he seeks to represent the traditional in Japanese landscape and architecture, together with contemporary culture. Colours are mostly coldand saturated, whilst the paintwork is chalky and opaque.
