Steven Lynch
Specialising in oil on canvas, Steven Lynch had his first solo exhibition at the tender age of nine. Painting in oil on canvas so early on in his life enabled Steven to begin to acquire his own sense of style and technique much earlier than most artists.
Having already established a familiarity and knowledge of oil paint, its capabilities and application by the time most painters are only beginning to initially explore the medium, Steven was left free to fine tune his own sense of perception for his subject and observational expertise.
Lynch's long term dedication to painting directly from life has enabled him to become a mature and confident portrait painter. Having spent the last five years focussing almost exclusively on his painting, his selection of previous portrait commissions, from animals to people, reflect his immeasurable talents.
Whether he's painting a portrait of people or of animal/s, Steven believes, "The first step in creating a 'good' portrait is the physical likeness… The next is the atmosphere of the painting" and goes on to add, " I like to try and achieve a 'painting' as well as a portrait. That is where a person, to whom the subject is known, could still appreciate the painting in its own right."
With a wealth of experience to hand Steven has developed a practice of working which allows you to see a computer generated 'mock up' of the composition potentially hours after first seeing you. Preferring to work from photographs, Steven combines a selection of images, either provided by you or taken by Steven, on to the computer. He then produces an initial composition for you to look at, which he can email directly and can be mailed back and forth, re arranged and altered until you and Steven are happy with all the elements in the composition. "Most people are stunned to see their loved ones or animals in a painting -much more so than in a photograph." he says, adding, "The subject can be presented in a new way or new situation that never existed before." Once the preliminary picture has been confirmed Steven will then begin to paint the portrait in oil on canvas or board.
