Rita Smith

Rita Smith’s watercolours and oil paintings relish the complexities of the visual world. Her subject matter, ranging from still life and interiors to paintings of New York cityscapes and Venetian canals, all carrying an intense desire to balance observational correctness with a poetic and more abstract vision.

1980 Awarded the Orpen Bursary from the Slade School of Fine Art
1980 Awarded the Boise Travelling Scholarship -Travelled to America
1982-92 Visiting lecturer at Camberwell School of Art
1992-99 Visiting lecturer at Falmouth College of Arts
1993 Winner of the Guinness Award at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, for the best first time exhibitor
