Daniel Cimmermann

Daniel is a figurative painter based in London. He has travelled widely in the far-east and is heavily influenced by Japanese culture, art and design. Relocating to Tokyo, Japan in January 2005, Daniel intends to pursue his interests there and create a new body of work. Exhibiting extensively throughout the U.K. Daniel has also shown work in The BP Portrait Award, at The National Portrait Gallery, London on several occasions and was selected for Northern Graduates after graduating in 2001.
“My work is specific to the human figure. I concentrate largely on the head. I like to manipulate, disfigure, and distort the face in order to make it more personal and significant to me. I am interested in ways the head can be disguised and defaced to represent a community, group or gang. My immediate work is obsessed with Japan. I am interested in juxtaposing the elegance of Ancient Japanese Prints with the garishness of Modern Japanese Graphic Art in order to create beautiful and exuberant paintings”.
