MATT FRANKS
29/1/1979

Matt Franks trained at Tunbridge Wells Grammer School, obtaining a B in Art and Design A-Level. He also studied a Foundation in Fine Art at Demontford college for one year. He therefore considers himself almost entirely self taught (apologies to his art teachers, they were a great help -honest).

He began drawing at an early age, first from comics and years later from still life. He had to; in school. In the last few years he has been very interested in studies of the human face and figure. Matt considers it to be the most difficult subject to draw accurately and as such, is a challenge. Despite this, he is currently enjoying trying his hand at more abstract work.

Matt has been accepting commissions for portraits since 1999 and has been commission firstly by friends and work colleagues and more recently by people via his website and internet auction sites.

He has recently completed commissions for an informal poster for the Office of Fair Trading, a church drawing for Margaret Brett OBE, and large poster of Gone With the Wind for the charity, Medicinema.

Matt works mainly in pencil and paper and typically takes around 5-10 hours to draw a picture, spread over a week or two.
