My work is very bold and often uses a limited colour scheme, usually mainly in acrylic paint as this allows me to work quite quickly and instinctively. Originally, after having finished university my work was heavily inspired by the books of JG Ballard, where I interpreted his myths of the near future into banal domestic scenes. This developed into a body of work consisting of "portraits" of toasters, kettles and other objects from modern life; which eventually led to an exhibition at Islington Arts Factory, Moments From Modern Life which comprised of paintings of objects and scenes from everyday life. Also, I occasionally incorporate text into my paintings, as I like the quality that it can offer, not only content-wise, but also visually and texturally. My influences include Patrick Caulfield- I love the atmospheric settings he creates, and the colour schemes that he uses; another influence is Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose craziness and energy I love and try to evoke a similar sense sometimes in my own work, in my own way. Another relatively recently discovered favourite of mine is Cy Twombly, whose expression and marks I love.
