Billy Pepper’s work explores the genres of landscape and self-portraiture. Taken over a period of 2 years she has photographed herself at various coastal locations throughout the UK.
'I have always been fascinated by the coast, particularly the allure of the horizon, the unpredictable weather conditions and changeable shoreline. The figures, portraits of myself, reflect my personal experiences and my relationship with the scenery and location in which they were taken.'
Billy Pepper graduated from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle in 1997 with a BA (Hons) Contemporary Photographic Practice. She then continued to study for a further year and gained a post-graduate certificate in Computer Applications for Art and Design.
In 1998 she was awarded a Digital Artist Bursary at the Focal Point Gallery, Southend-On-Sea. During this time she completed a digital film projection on CD Rom, this was exhibited as part of expo’99 in Derby.
Billy has worked as a digital photographer for Sotheby’s and undertaken photographic assignments for a Design Consultancy, commissions included Channel Four.
She has exhibited in several group shows throughout the UK and at Fresh Art Fair, July 2003, London.
