My work is a celebration of the fluidity of interpretation inherent in the recognisable object, the image as a receptacle and generator of a multiplicity of meaning. Even more so when this capacity is compounded by the juxtapostion of apparently random images to create myriad's of possible naratives.
Whilst being aware of the conventions of picture making arrived through our art historical context, I feel that recognition has been downgraded as a necessary concomitant to the art experience and thus the image itself has become undervalued as source by which consciousness re plays the world to itself.
The fact that we can be simultaneously aware of the marks on canvas and the image to which they give rise, indicates the nature of our perception and the desire to make meaning from what we observe.
