I concentrate on portraits because the human face and figure say so much - the history of that person is written in every wrinkle, surface and attitude. It's the same kind of curiosity which has affected humans since very ancient times - I study the human head in the light of 21st Century and ask if it is any different from previous centuries.

From 1989-96 I exhibited at the annual Spring and Autumn exhibitions in Riga. During my studies at the Latvian Academy, I exhibited frequently with my classmates in various galleries in Riga.
1998 Solo exhibition 'Irena Irena' at the Black Swan Arts Centre, Frome, Somerset.
1998 Solo exhibition 'Irena Irena' at the Latvian Embassy, 45 Nottingham Place, London. This was the first exhibition staged at the embassy and coincided with the celebrations for 80 years of Latvian independence.
