My work explores the representation of familiar things and the way in which we perceive the mundane reality around us. I attempt to focus on a collection of domestic objects and, through use of colour and texture, lift them to a deeper level of intensity. I explore not only our direct perceptions of these objects, but also the way in which reality can be distorted by reflective surfaces such as glass or metal. I try to capture the complex interplay between light, colour, texture and form in items of everyday existence.
My main influences have been the great Dutch and Spanish still life painters.
Largely self-taught, I received some formal art training from Taunton College of Art and Bristol Polytechnic. I have exhibited eleven times in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, seventeen times in the Royal west of England Academy, Bristol and have had numerous exhibitions in in galleries in London, Bristol, Bath Wells.
