Every photograph has in some way been "set up" and "manipulated" even before the image goes into the camera. After it has been captured I can again manipulate, falsify, alter and create...
A few years ago I feel in love - with polaroid film. The appeal of taking straight photography into the realms of fantasy became an obsession.
I use polaroid's SX-70 and then "manipulate" the emulsion which gives a "painterly" effect and as this process cannot be pepeated absolutely, every picture is an original piece of work.
The polaroid's "emulsion lifts" are photographs that have had their emulsion lifted and placed onto different papers; also originals.
The digital work is either from a digital camera or a scanned photograph then "altered" and printed onto various treated, textured, canvas and water colour papers.
Although the inkjets have been sprayed with a U.V. protected coating they should be treated as water colour paintings.
The nudes are a selection of an ongoing project. The women are or have been child bearers and carers. The pictures started life as black and white negatives then hand printed and scanned, inkjetted onto stained water colour paper to give an "aged" and timeless feel.
