Astrida Berzina, Ma in Arts
painting, drawing, hand made paper, surface design, fibre art, art therapy
My educational background is in Fine Arts. I studied at the College of Fine Arts in Riga, Latvia and went on to take a BA in Textiles at the Academy of Fine Arts in Riga. After some time working as a practising artist, art teacher and art therapist for both adults and children I returned to the Academy of Fine Arts in Riga and accomplished my MA degree in Visual Arts (2003). Since 2003 I live and work in London.
I have participated in great number of different International art exhibitions, symposiums and workshops in Latvia and across Europe. My artworks are in state collections (State Museum of Latvia and Russian Museum of Arts in Sankt Petersburg) and in private collections in UK, Germany, Finland, Norway, Austria, Argentina, USA.
I believe that life and art is a simultaneous expression of the individual and the Universal; the human body being complex and beautiful in its shape, the human soul being complex and beautiful in itself… In my art practice I aim to make visible that what is usually invisible: the feelings, thoughts and dreams of humans, referenced to the previous long lasting experiences and cultural values of mankind.
