The figure is consistently my primary subject, in particular its articulation when engaged in movement. The body language that reveals and expresses inner emotions intrigues me. The physical structures of the body often allow for and develop into abstract concepts of form. Working from the model is a priority, I have also frequently worked with contemporary dancers. In my early work figures were part of a larger landscape, latterly the figure and landscape have become separate subjects, my engagement with both remains concerned with visual curiosity and emotional rapport. My early work evolved through painting and drawing. Since I began experimenting with printmaking twenty years ago it has become the main vehicle for my imagery. From beginnings with etching and monoprint I have researched many techniques, particularly safer contemporary methods. Collographs and the Japanese style woodcut remain however my favoured method, being for me the most painterly.
