MY NAME IS NEIL WELCH AND I'M a SCULPTOR LIVING AND WORKING IN STAFFORDSHIRE. MY PASSION IS THE NAKED FORM. I think that it is the most beautiful and honest way to portray a human being. I feel sculpture should capture the organic vulnrability of a person because I believe it is this quality that brings a piece to life.In my sculpture I wanted to take this a step further by capturing a feeling of warmth and the effect of sunlight on the skin.To achievre this I worked closely with the foundry to come up with some stunning golden patinations that when combined with the bronze look really beautiful.This passion for form has flowed over into my love affair with Greek mythology which is the inspiration behind my 3 latest limited edition bronze sculptures.The first of these is ... GALATEA- A maiden who in greek mythology was carved out of stone by Pygmalion and brought to life by Aphrodite in answer to the sculptors pleas. NATURES GRACE- The embodiment of the goddess Flora (bringing to life as she dances the first green of spring).Not separate from nature but a part of it. ACHILLES- (COMING SOON) is to be a true celebration of male masculinity and form. C.V I worked as the figurative sculptor for WEDGWOODS and DOULTONS china for 8 years before going freelance in 2000.Since then I have had complete artistic freedom with my own artwork which is a joy ,When my true life as an artist began.I also take on many private commissions during the year. | |||||
