My recent work explores our perception of landscape. In the twenty-first century our comprehension of reality in the visual world is derived as much from photographic and moving images as from actual experience of an environment. We take in a landscape that we pass through as if watching a movie - zooming in on certain key areas.

In these paintings I have used transferred photographic imagery, enlarged and enhanced in places, to communicate my experience of the Alpine landscape. The mountains are not empty and un-trodden, they bear the trace of human presence and mans intervention in the natural order. The juxtaposition of the fragmented, mechanically produced imagery and the painted marks is symbolic of this precarious balance.
