Born in South Wales, John Podpadec is an artist and film-maker living in Somerset.
As a photographer and artist John has exhibited widely in this country and in Europe. His work has been included in exhibitions at The Cornerhouse-Manchester, Impressions-York and The Photographers Gallery-London.
John has worked in film and television for more than 20 years, specializing in lighting and camerawork (RTS award 2004). Many of the projects he has worked on have received awards from BAFTA, The RTS, The European Commission and others. In recent years John has built strong relations with many artists working in film and was Director of Photography for Nina Pope and Karen Guthrie on their project Bataville (Northern Arts Prize 2008).
Drawing inspiration from deep space photography John here produces a series of paintings that explore the far distant regions where massive bodies collide, gases mix and where worlds are created. Using a combination of techniques he produces an explosive blend of colour and form with often striking results.
