Artists CV    artwork
Blanka Ciok

After a number of years spent travelling and engaging with people from many different cultures, it became my belief that imagery is more powerful than the written or spoken word: as the visual arts can transcend the boundaries set up by language. The picture has always been part of my life and it is through imagery that I express myself, the moment of my existance and rationalize the world at large. In the production of my artwork I have strived for an aesthetic which can be understood and appreciated by everyone, regardless of culture, class or educational background.

This body of work is partly inspired by conversations and theories based on philosophy, the theory of existence and axiology. Ostensibly my artworks are meditative reflections of melancholy, isolation and insulation, but they are also concerned with the passing of time and the solitude of the individual. To create my art I use a variety of techniques which include state of the art lambda print technology, photography and digital imaging processes. Despite the contemporary nature of these techniques my artworks are equally enriched with symbolisms that contain art historical references.

Each of these prints evoke a dream-like surreality and utilize subtly muted ink tones to amplify a sense of drama. These creative methods articulate a degree of containment, isolation and abandon - concepts that are both deeply personal and comprehensively universal in meaning.

Dibond is a relatively lightweight, yet very rigid aluminium composite material, witch due to it's optically flat panel, makes it a perfect photographic mounting material

Lambda Prints photographic technology has taken over from the traditional photographic process
Lambda photographic prints are normally produced on Fuji Crystal Archive paper which produces look and feel of the traditional photograph but with all the benefits of digital control.

Perspex Face Mounting is the process of mounting photographic print between a sheet of Perspex and a Aluminium or Dibond backing sheet which protect against dirt, scratching and premature aging but it can also achieve a floating
three dimensional quality unobtainable by any other process.
