Artistís Statement

The boundary between representation and abstraction is of particular interest to me. My image begins with something seen, a building, landscape or object taken out of context or a particular light. The finished pieces evolve out of a process of continual change and an innate knowledge of colour and composition. Jeanís interest in the two dimensional plane and the texture of the picture surface is evident. Jean believes art is an extraordinary glance at the ordinary. That we should try to readjust our perceptions and hopes to give a strong image to which people can respond by emphasising, eliminating and clarifying to allow others a fresh viewpoint. Her paintings are about reality without resorting to imitation.

Jean tries to create personally meaningful work, working in oils, pastel and water based media in her studio from previously made sketches. Her work is in private collections here and abroad.
