Born in St. Andrews in 1959. Educated in Switzerland, Scotland and Germany.
My first experience of drawing was being allowed to colour my father’s architectural drawings and early success came when, aged 11, I won an Edinburgh Schools Competition and found my drawing adorning the cover of a book.
Leaving school at 16, I spent my first working winter in a cold Edinburgh factory, which drove home the realisation that there had to be more to life, so I set off on the first available train south – and ended up in (West) Berlin.
After a couple of brief stints working as a lifeguard and gravedigger (not related) I was accepted, on the strength of my work, into Art College in Berlin and found my vocation. On leaving college, I spent the next 25 years as an Art Director in Advertising, working on blue chip accounts both here in the UK and in Europe.
Although I’ve always enjoyed creating images in a variety of media, it wasn’t until I realised you only live once, that I decided to dedicate all of my energy into what I love doing most - painting.
