Lily Petrova

Lilyana Petrova – Lulu was born in Sofia, Bulgaria on May 14, 1981. At the age of 4 she stepped into an art studio for the first time and this marks the beginning of her life as an artist. Following the path she had chosen, in 1999 she graduated the High School of Fine Arts specializing in “Painting”, and then in the very same year she was enrolled to continue her education in the Academy of Arts with specialty “Fashion and Industrial Design”. After two years in the academy she decided to take up ceramics and started to serve as an apprentice in a ceramics studio, then in 2002 she transferred to New Bulgarian University and in 2008 completed her Bachelor’s degree in specialty “Graphic design”. Soon after in 2009 she specialised in and completed a Master’s degree in “Painting”.
The interest in art and its various forms and skills intensified and during the years of her studies she was incited to express herself through various techniques and materials. Diverse as a creator, she is mainly a painter, even though she works with graphics, ceramics, graphic and web design, illustrations, interior and exterior design, and in the past few years she has been working as a costume designer in various TV reality shows, as well as in the film industry in Bulgaria.
The year 2004 marked the beginning of her participation in various group exhibitions of students and young authors in Sofia.
In 2005 she had her first individual exhibition “While they were sleeping” with a series of portraits and landscapes.
In the same year 2005 she established a design studio, where she is a manager and a co-shareholder, as well as a children’s school of drawing for kids between the ages of 4 and 8. The next year she started to organize exhibitions of the children who were studying drawing in the school.
During the years 2006 – 2010 she had many more participations in various group expositions.
In 2008 she created a complete visual and multimedia concept based on music by the composer Simon Lazar, with whom she created the show “The Muse”, which was played multiple times in various towns in Bulgaria and is still played today in other countries.
From 2009 up to present she has been working primarily with wall-painting, glass-staining and mosaics for private customers, transforming their homes completely and bringing life to every nook in the rooms with color and interesting composition solutions.
In 2010 she took up costume design in various TV projects.
In 2012 she participated in a group exhibition in London. This exhibition turned her to painting again, provoking her to create a series of paintings combining different materials and techniques, which opened a whole new world of perceptions and expectations. The subject of the paintings is the man in his interaction with the macrocosms and microcosms, nature, the sea and celestial world, as well as the biomechanics and urbanization created by us, the people.
