Derrick Kaggwa was born in 1970 in Kampala the capital of Uganda a small East African country. He started drawing at an early age of 7 years. Blessed with a family lineage of artists, he quickly mastered and developed outstanding techniques of art and armed with a keen eye for detail and innovation, he managed to integrate ancient and modern styles. He studied still life, cast drawing ,oil paintings and Batiks and attained a diploma in commercial art and design in 1992. Derrick worked as a commercial artist between 1993 - 1998 and his work won a group exhibition competition at the Nommo gallery in Kampala. He has continued to master oils and acrylics as the favourite mediums with African culture and wildlife as his subject specialities. He has a private collection with the Fine Arts centre for East Africa in Sanfrancisco, California and his love for Art has extended into the field of Body atonomy.
