Born in the Czech Republic in 1961, Carpin spent some of his most influential years in prison. Initially Carpin began to paint portraits of his room-mates and by using photographs of his relatives to perfect his techniques and skills he painted a collection of works which ran in to the hundreds. Before going to prison Carpin worked as a Forestry Manager. His love for nature and the landscape began to creep in to his paintings. Using his memories and emotions of the 'outside world' he began to place his figures within specific environments. This in turn gave narrative and context to his work and led him to develop his own unique painting style. Since leaving prison Carpin exhibits across the Czech Republic and his work is held in many private collections across the country. |
