| The beautiful paintings of Jenny Jones offer a direct hit of visual pleasure by way of their pleasing colour combinations and creative compositional elements. On closer inspection, their subject matter is revealed as highly original and often humorous. She eschews traditional genres to create worlds of unfettered imagination. Ambiguous, dream-like spaces are inhabited by a variety of semi-recognisable creatures existing in relation to forms whose textures and shapes are drawn from nature: geology, plantlife and the weather. Hidden narratives may be guessed at but these are never set in stone. The style of each painting emerges out of its own concerns and content. |
