| Ulyana Gumeniuk creates large scale figurative paintings in oil on canvas. Through an introduction of contemporary elements which are unfamiliar to the period, Ulyana Gumeniuk's figurative compositions cleverly balance traditional painting techniques and compositional device with that of the present day. This could be anything, from the costume of her figures to the architecture and interior decoration within their environment. Born in the Ukraine, she studied both in St Petersburg and London, and among her achievements is the BP Travel award in 2003, where she returned to St Petersburg to paint murals incorporating traditional Russian scenes and characters. |
