| Specialising in digital photography Tobias graduated with a degree in Fine Art from Byam Shaw at the Central Saint Martins School of Art. His figurative work combines photography with digitally generated imagery to create dark and menacing environments. Severe lighting is predominantly directed towards the figures and defines and illuminates their clothes and skin. This peculiar lighting seems to slice through the darkness and break its oppressive silence, somehow managing to paint a deathly sense of mortality. Tobias comments, "The characters in my images are either models/actors, or they are from photographs taken at random in everyday public places, train stations, streets etc. They are then taken out of their prosaic everyday context and placed into worlds that are unreal, digital and often hostile." |
