| Few images capture the imagination quite like the hazy invisibility of mist glistening in the winter sun. Victoria Stothard captures the idiosyncracies of the seasons in her bright, skillfull paintings. Her Hollyhocks have a deep velvety, wine colour, brought to life with a stroke of driven white. In the light of the fading dusk, butterflies play and reflect what is left of the day. She shows the viewer the beautiful shapes created when flowers are shown in close up. Her mixed media copperwave pictures create a textured flash of abstraction, while the heavy lines of the symmetrical, split canvasses create weighty atmospherics. Her work is varied and accomplished and for someone so young she already has a dedicated group of collectors and admirers. |
