Hassiba Hafiz

My main inspiration for my paintings is nature. I want to bring elements on the earth into my art. I love nature and the feeling it evokes inside me and I feel that by exploring nature and doing mundane things such as walking in a park or by the seaside bring so much serenity, tranquillity and harmony within me. Nature possesses so much beauty, power and I am intrigued by the mechanisms that drive everything in our ecosystems and on earth as a whole. It makes me reflect on the impact of my own actions and that of the modern world and future generations on the earth. Through my paintings I try to evoke beauty and peace in the world and draw attention to some of the most urgent matters in human and environmental issues. I love working with mixed media and colours to show the variety that is abundant in nature creating a visual way of soothing and unwinding focusing on attractive scenery to help myself and others around me.

Beata Hughes

Beata Hughes is one of our abstract painters who enjoys the immediacy of Acrylic paint as apposed to the slow drying qualities of Oil Paint. Deep and fiery reds, vibrant violets and blues are startlingly juxtaposed against intense, almost black expanses of immeasurably deep colour.

Sergej Hahonin

SERGEJ HAHONIN Russian born Sergej Hahonin studied painting in Omsk then at Krasnojarsk Academy of Art in Siberia where he specialized in ceramics and pottery. His masterly depiction of the human figure displays his classical training and native skill, as a 4-year old child he won the award for the best painting in Soviet Union drawn by a pre-school child. He has enjoyed a long career as both a painter and curator in Russia and Slovenia. His work reflects the influence of Gustav Klimt’s art nouveau style, particularly his ‘Golden phase’, in his choice of female form as his main subject matter, his sensual and intense use of colour and frank eroticism. His dynamic use of paint integrates accident and the uncontrolled to express themes of passion and sexuality, he adapts art nouveau forms to a tribal style.

George Hale

Starting with random brush marks and seeking inspiration from his own subconscious mind, George creates engrossing images that can be darkly sinister or charmingly playful. Whe he achieves both states in the same work, you find yourself unsettled yet strangely satisfied.

Gerry Halpin MBE MAFA

'After a recent visit to Cuba, I became interested in painting groups of people and the way in which they related both together and within their environment. Whilst in the public Art Gallery in Havana, which is a wonderfully spacious building, I began to draw figures as they moved within the space and was intrigued by the way in which the forms shifted within the groups and how the interplay of light and dark on the walls at one point absorbed the figure and then threw it into relief. Neither the figure nor the place was important to the drawing in terms of their identity, and in fact the speed drawing exagerated the anonymity of the people. What became important, and the point of developing the work into paintings on my return to the studio, was the balanced abstraction of the spatial relationships which were created within an equally abstract space.

James  Hands

If Impressionism is to be defined as an attempt to record a visual reality by reflecting the transient effects of colour and light, then James Hand's work began in the same vain, with very similar concerns. Using his own visual reality as reference, as well as taking technical direction from the works of some of the great Impressionists, James began to explore paint, its effects and capabilities. Hands began by establishing a strong visual foundation by which to begin exploring transient light, colour and texture. His most recent empirical explorations seem not only to examine these concerns but to visually magnify the previous works appearance, and in doing so creating seemingly abstract compositions of light colour and texture. James Hands is one of Londonart's most popular artists. His work has been celebrated across Europe and is held in numerous private collections.

Christine Harfleet

Christine Harfleet's work is inspired by a "fascination and appreciation of the earth and its natural rock formations - fossils with their hidden secrets, sea and water movements and plants and cell life." Drawing plays an important part in the creation of her work and forms a strong foundation to her working practice. Sketching directly from life when out on location, Harfleet uses her drawings to help recapture the form and feeling of nature once she is back in the studio. Educated at Goldsmiths College of Art in Fine Art, where she gained a degree and postgraduate Diploma she currently specialises in photography, sculpture and painting. Christine Harfleet lives and works in Brighton where she regularly exhibits her work.

Merlin Harish

At first sight, the strong colours and geometric shapes of these digital images appear to be modern - day yantras, which exert a powerful retinal pull. Combining western sci-fi influences both in form and their ironic, labyrinthine titles, they are redolent of the mysterious narratives of Borges. Operating on so many formal and imaginative levels, their use of repetition, diffraction and endless movement create eruptions of intense colour, which are nevertheless both wistful and somehow haunting. These works leave an after effect both in the eye and the mind.

Johnathan Harrington

Jonathan Harrington combines rich and intense colour, earthy reds and fiery hues, with powerful texture and robust surface. Applying thick textural layers of paint, Jonathan physically manipulates and builds into his work a real sense of depth. His vigorous compositions seem to emerge from within the paint, forced to the very surface of the painting by a burst of energy and incite.
