Oscar Karababa takes his inspiration from the human form. "I adore the curves and the softness of a women's body and subconsciously they appear in most of my work in one way or another". Gudawer Kalirai is in partnership with Jane Dorner who uses glass to make swirling colour gestures and to paint in light. Her technique allows the distortive qualities of the blowing, heating and shaping processes of glassmaking to add dynamism and depth. Gudawer’s work complements this by sensitively manipulating the colour, light and shape to reflect the already inherent interplay between intention and happenstance.

Jane starts with a pâte de verre embryo form made from a paste of coloured glass powders ‘painted’ into a pre-prepared plaster mould and then fired. The ‘canvas’ is opaline glass which gives a ghostly effect at the edges where the clear glass from the furnace interacts with the edge of the original. The embryo is picked up in the hotshop on a bubble of molten glass, encased in more glass, blown out and shaped.
