Kevin Dunn

Kevin Dunn's photographs often use blue tone monochromatic colour or coloured sepia tones to highlight and reflect his chosen subject matter. This really does help to give his work a real sense of isolation and detachment.

Graham William Edden

The paintings of Graham William Edden are naturalistic and skilfully pay homage to the human form. In this, they are complete in themselves. But Edden's artistic perception metaphorically extends the beauty of the human subject by capturing the body in its actions: what it does and how it works. In '"An Affectionate Hug", he conveys the slight movement a breast makes when receiving a loving embrace. Another example can be observed in "I See You". Whilst the painting does the job of seeing the eye itself with utter conviction, it also reflects the pure, unadulterated gaze. As viewers, we are iintially seduced by the recognition of the outer appearance of humanity, only to ponder these 'moments' where the body speaks of itself.

Adam Edwards

South London based artist Adam Edwards paints enlarged faces using oils which reveal suppressed emotional states and traumas from images he finds in newspapers and magazines. “If I am a portrait painter, that’s incidental, I feel more like a conceptual artist working through the medium of portraiture, not attempting to create either an image of the sitter, or capture in any way their soul, but to produce an image of myself and solidify the ethereal moment between conception and execution of the piece”. His first solo show will open on June 18th 2009 at the Bear Free House's upstairs gallery, 296a Camberwell New Road, SE5.

Kristin Erken

Kristin mostly paints on natural materials such as slate and plywood. The rough finish, edges and warp of some of the pieces that she finds, form an integral part of the work. "These paintings try to explore the past 'experience' or 'memory' of the materials I paint on in creating a new window or landscape using their natural forms and textures" says the artist. The natural wood and rock surfaces merge with painterly spaces and the forms of plants, insects, the human body, water, rock and other organic life. The works blur the lines or boundaries between different forms of life, mixing them in a visual soup of line and texture. Objects blend into one another as part of a bigger pattern.
