Cecelia Heyne

CECELIA HEYNE Cecelia is a Zimbabwean artist who has been producing paintings for exhibitions and private commission for the last fourteen years. She works with acrylics and oils, in two very different styles. The Southern African theme of totemic culture influences the one body of work. A collage of images sourced from memory, books and photographs are exaggerated and manipulated onto the canvas. The resultant shapes are then blocked in with strong colour, resulting in bold, bright, design-oriented canvases. Surrealist mindscapes explore three-dimensional representation in her other range of paintings. Emphasis in composition is on creating depth, distance and fullness which together with the use of rich, dissonant colour, result in works which have an uncomfortable brooding, edginess to them.

Mike Hoggett

Mike Hoggett Mike Hoggett studied fine art at Falmouth, his current work comes out of the abstract expressionist tradition. He aims to paint in as pure a way as possible, working with a clear open mind, responding intuitively to his medium. The process is like a game of hide and seek, he says, scraping back to reveal layers beneath, or perhaps covering these layers up over and over until he can get the image to a state of completion. The paint is smeared, dragged, flicked, dripped and scratched into, using brushes, knives, kitchen spatulas, window squeegees - and all manner of things that he can find to manipulate the paint on the surface.

Melanie Housden

Housden’s beautiful, delicate paintings echo a sense of aloneness. The fragility and tenderness of Housden’s new work ‘fallen Angel’ demonstrates a rare, sensitivity found in great paintings. We look forward to seeing more of this new work.
