hector javier ramirez

Searching for answers to some of the oldest and most philosophical of questions, Hector Javier Ramirez is fascinated by the sublime. Focusing on the darker side of the equilibrium, his work explores our fundamental values and humanist qualities, bringing them to life on a pretty impressive scale. Measuring not less than a metre high, Ramirez’s paintings and charcoal drawings dominate their hanging space and leave us immersed in their presence. “My work is about the loss of human values and how the animals are more human than the human - we fight, we kill, just for pleasure”. He says, addind “I dont like the beautiful bodies and perfect forms, I like the grotesque, the ugly people, the fat people.” Ramirez 2007.

Barbara Rawcliffe

As her paintings of the Yorkshire Dales attest, Barbara Rawcliffe is an accomplished painter with a perceptive feel for capturing the vagaries of our beautiful British landscape. But added to this are wonderful lyrical details which animate her compositions and give a feminine appeal. Indeed works such as 'Walking Home' and 'Walk in the Forest' in their sureness of line, solid colour and paint application put one in mind of the beautiful paintings of Winifred Nicholson and Paula Modersohn-Becker.

Devajyoti Ray

"In the media dominated post globalized scenario, the boundaries between real and pseudo-real seem to be blurred as scoops are passed as facts and facts are camouflaged as fiction. Having said that, Devajyoti’s use of ‘Pseudo-realistic’ imagery itself is a strong metaphor that appears to be more relevant in 21st century India; it is curious why pseudo-realism is yet to take root in visual art and influence our creative minds. Devajyoti Ray is one of the few artists in the country who is consistently working in this newly founded genre and perhaps only one who is showing such an acute devotion to it." (Rajendra, Editor, Indian Contemporary Art Journal.)

Lou Reade

Having obtained a degree in Fine Art, Lou Reade now paints emotive pieces currently dealing with a pre-occupation with bikes and the quirky prettiness of everyday scenes. Her work is has a contemporary feel but does not cast aside traditional artistic styles and techniques. Having exhibited around the USA and the UK, Reade now has found a home on Londonart, and we are delighted to show her. She also creates edgy, atmospheric portraits, remniscent of X-rays, creating images that show beauty is not just skin deep. Young and very talented, we look forward to sharing more of Reade's work in the future.
