mark thirlwell

Probably the first artist on the whole Londonart site to use the word "Metamodernism" of his work, Mark achieved a First in his BA in Fine Art when he graduated from Sunderland University in 2012. New artists emerging from art school are often the closest to "where its at" in terms of current cutting edge thinking about art and keen collectors value this intellectual commodity. Mark is concerned to cross-reference his ideas; producing enigmatic works, such as double portraits.and horses heads: modelled in 3D, dissolving to simple marks on paper. His painting "How to present one self with two other selves" is both comic yet searching. The subject looks out at the viewer, amidst questions scrawled in blood red: an image attempting to reproduce the questioning of the artist's own self/selves.

George Thompson

This is life drawing at it's most varied. George Thompson is not one of those artists who stick to one particular style. He imaginatively adapts his technique and medium to the visual stimuli put before him. He is able to pick out the most salient aspects of the model's pose, be it by a sophisiticated and knowledgeable emphasis of line, shape, tone or form, in the most satisfying of ways.

Melanie Titmuss

Accomplished in portraiture, Melanie Titmuss works in oils but also favours ink and watercolour work. She specialises in portraits of animals and in each of the portarits of dogs she shows here on Londonart, she demonstrates that she is capable of conveying the essence of the "sitter" with a freshness of style every time. Thus proving that the gaze of a dog is every bit as powerful as that of its human counterpart.

Raul Tripa

Raul displays a provocative collection of portraits painted over the last four years, which range from extremely lifelike at one end to a morass of paint and surface texture at the other. Such examples bring to mind the work of Auerbach and Dubuffet, with their differing approaches to using texture. To dip, as Tripa does, in and out of resemblance, seems to present the viewer with many questions about the persistence and reliability of identity. How much we can know a person or how well? Maybe they hint at an inner essence that transcends superficial details of appearance?

Peter Truran

Measuring the success of each piece of work by his ability to create an image which looks effortless, Truran searches for, “…a Zen-like moment when there seems to be no distinction between the artist and the object of his creation.” Searching to produce paintings in oils which are born out of an unconscious act of creation, he uses brush; rag and finger to produce, he says, “...a feeling that the form emerges as a barely conscious dialogue between the marks on the surface and the artist.” Peter Truran was born in Cornwall and currently lives and works in Cardiff, Wales.
