James  Hands

If Impressionism is to be defined as an attempt to record a visual reality by reflecting the transient effects of colour and light, then James Hand's work began in the same vain, with very similar concerns. Using his own visual reality as reference, as well as taking technical direction from the works of some of the great Impressionists, James began to explore paint, its effects and capabilities. Hands began by establishing a strong visual foundation by which to begin exploring transient light, colour and texture. His most recent empirical explorations seem not only to examine these concerns but to visually magnify the previous works appearance, and in doing so creating seemingly abstract compositions of light colour and texture. James Hands is one of Londonart's most popular artists. His work has been celebrated across Europe and is held in numerous private collections.

Catherine Heard

While Catherine's condiment works look like random collections of kitchen basics, they are in fact psychological profiles of their owners - portraits that can tell us more about their subjects than more traditional head-and-shoulders daubs. She also captures the recognisable brands with loving attention to detail.

Hassiba Hafiz

Hassiba Hafiz's paintings are strongly influenced by nature and 'the power of the cosmos'. Although her subject matter is very obviously drawn from the same place, her paintings reflect two distinct styles of expression. Her mixed media works reflect and explore nature and its attributes through the physical use of textural colour and form, while her oil on canvas works, explore a reflection and illusion of it. Each unique way of working compliments and contributes to the other and generates an intense emotional response from the viewer. Hassiba Hafiz has exhibited across London and abroad.

Gerry Halpin MBE MAFA

'After a recent visit to Cuba, I became interested in painting groups of people and the way in which they related both together and within their environment. Whilst in the public Art Gallery in Havana, which is a wonderfully spacious building, I began to draw figures as they moved within the space and was intrigued by the way in which the forms shifted within the groups and how the interplay of light and dark on the walls at one point absorbed the figure and then threw it into relief. Neither the figure nor the place was important to the drawing in terms of their identity, and in fact the speed drawing exagerated the anonymity of the people. What became important, and the point of developing the work into paintings on my return to the studio, was the balanced abstraction of the spatial relationships which were created within an equally abstract space.
