Susan Jelley

Whether tackling the subjects of children’s stories, painting riverside scenes or portraits Susan Jelley does so with a skilful hand and deftness of touch. By using a smoky impressionistic style she manages to show the light and energy of the things she paints. Her painting of London really captures the hazy chaos of early morning by the river. Her pictures of models and Russian girls show sensitivity for form and sympathy for the subjects. This is clearly art made by an artist who cares deeply about the world around her. The illustrative works of children’s stories would make fantastic gifts for younger relatives as the characters are painted in a practiced and studied manner. Varied and always interesting, Susan Jelley’s work will surely prove popular with the discerning customers of LondonArt.

Katherine Jenkins

For many artists the study of light and the attempt to capture it on a flat surface, like canvas has been a life time preoccupation. Katherine, an emerging artist, has also started her journey towards discovering light and its impact on the final result of a painting. She enjoys exploring it while painting still-lives and interiors, which are good models for her case study.

Eric  Jobbins

Eric has been trained as a teacher with his main subject being art. His inspirations came from the works of the Pre-Raphaelites and Salvador Dali's surrealism, but he created the most powerful opinions about art when he saw a Spanish Super - Realist exhibition about 30 years ago. Since then he has been driven by an urge to capture detail in painting and aimed to achieve three-dimensional imagery, with a hint of impressionism.

Anthony Johnson

Anthony Johnson's work hopes to reflect mans struggle to enhance and harness the natural world. Johnson's use of an underlying geometric structure combined with his erratic and frenetic mark making capture the spirit of contemporary urban living. "It is the idea of an industrialised environment's denial of human mortality that interests me." says Johnson… "My work tries to address the idea that our surrounding fabricated environment often seems incapable of sustaining the creatures that have built it all and now must exist within its framework."

Alison Johnson

By expressing the power of light playing amongst the water drops, this artist shows the abstract, surreal side to the natural world. Her seascapes follow a deep tradition which Johnson modernises and adds her own feminine, decorative touch. Blues and yellows sink below a piercing white surface as oceans and landscapes drift in and out of a sweeping hazy mist. The sky appears deep and brooding, the colours revealing a darkness that battles with the flashes of light. When shapes and figures do reveal themselves they appear lost and fragile against the infinite space of the world around. Such is the atmosphere contained in these works they could easily be viewed as pure abstractions, each detail vital enough to stand alone. These are truly astonishing pictures that need to be viewed up close to be appreciated.

Jenny Jones

The beautiful paintings of Jenny Jones offer a direct hit of visual pleasure by way of their pleasing colour combinations and creative compositional elements. On closer inspection, their subject matter is revealed as highly original and often humorous. She eschews traditional genres to create worlds of unfettered imagination. Ambiguous, dream-like spaces are inhabited by a variety of semi-recognisable creatures existing in relation to forms whose textures and shapes are drawn from nature: geology, plantlife and the weather. Hidden narratives may be guessed at but these are never set in stone. The style of each painting emerges out of its own concerns and content.
