THEO MICHAEL

Enigmatic is a much over used word, but for the work of Theo Michael no other word will do. Each painting contains as many narrative points as the film noir movies he is so passionate about. Trilby donned characters make phone calls, ignoring or unaware of the femme fatal watching closely with her shoulder suggestively exposed. A couple walks along seaside promenades, but is it their love keeping them warm or does the restless weather represent an unknown trauma unfolding? Heavily stylised characters play chess in a desert landscape or light cigarettes, delighted with the attention they are receiving from the scooter riding local girls. This work is deeply atmospheric, with small details creating wider questions about the characters and their world. Undeniably attractive and mysterious enough to keep the viewer coming back for more, this is art would provide intrigue and interest in any home or office space.

Noriko Michigami

Born in Japan, Noriko Michigami moved to the UK as a child. "Soon after I began painting in England I became aware that mostly my sense of sensibilities originated in Japan…" She says, adding, " The simplicity and the sense of 'Praise of shadows' and the Japanese traditional concept of 'mono-no-aware' to understand and respond to the appeal of objects to the human heart, effect not only my emotion, but they make my perception". Shaped by her memory and emotions, she is particularly interested in how light and shadow affects the work, both visually and psychologically. Her use of colour, particularly her brown sepia washes, helps to create a strong sense of isolation and melancholy. Noriko Michigami has works in private collections throughout the U.K.
