Helen McKenna-Menges

Helen McKenna-Menges was brought up on the Solway Firth and spent much of her time on the coast in Scotland and England. The power of the lakes and seascapes of the west coast and the dramatic Scottish hills still influences her work today. "Painting became a way of gaining access to the same feelings I had there, when I couldn't be there physically… I love the outdoors and I love the challenge of painting outdoors and the race between the clouds, sun, midges and my paint drying". Helen's recent landscapes paintings focus on the landscape of Scotland, Cumbria, and Cornwall. Helen McKenna-Menges studied at the highly acclaimed Goldsmiths College, London University in 1991.

Edward McNaught-Davis

Taking his native Wales as inspiration, Mc Naught Davis displays great sensitivity as well as an obvious proficiency in his painterly depiction of landscape and interiors. Of particular note are the works 'Carew Castle Turret Steps, Pembroke Castle Doorway' and 'Into the Light'. He has painted the stonework with a gentle scumbling that evokes a tactile sensation, so that one can almost feel the rough stone surfaces beneath one's fingers. His treatment of light and the atmosphere he skilfully conveys suggest a truly spiritual dimension to his art.

THEO MICHAEL

Enigmatic is a much over used word, but for the work of Theo Michael no other word will do. Each painting contains as many narrative points as the film noir movies he is so passionate about. Trilby donned characters make phone calls, ignoring or unaware of the femme fatal watching closely with her shoulder suggestively exposed. A couple walks along seaside promenades, but is it their love keeping them warm or does the restless weather represent an unknown trauma unfolding? Heavily stylised characters play chess in a desert landscape or light cigarettes, delighted with the attention they are receiving from the scooter riding local girls. This work is deeply atmospheric, with small details creating wider questions about the characters and their world. Undeniably attractive and mysterious enough to keep the viewer coming back for more, this is art would provide intrigue and interest in any home or office space.

Noriko Michigami

Born in Japan, Noriko Michigami moved to the UK as a child. "Soon after I began painting in England I became aware that mostly my sense of sensibilities originated in Japan…" She says, adding, " The simplicity and the sense of 'Praise of shadows' and the Japanese traditional concept of 'mono-no-aware' to understand and respond to the appeal of objects to the human heart, effect not only my emotion, but they make my perception". Shaped by her memory and emotions, she is particularly interested in how light and shadow affects the work, both visually and psychologically. Her use of colour, particularly her brown sepia washes, helps to create a strong sense of isolation and melancholy. Noriko Michigami has works in private collections throughout the U.K.

Sarah Milburn

As equally at home with the figurative as the fantastic, Sarah Milburn is a past master at conjuring a mood. Whether it be a blustery day amidst local architecture or a sumptuous evocation of dancing flames, she uses pattern freely and expressively to imbue her compositions with dynamic energy. She describes herself as a latecomer to art and an "absolute beginner" but her work is already proving to be most popular up in the North East where she lives.
