Krista Anspoka

Krista Anspoka's acrylic paintings are painted in a very direct style, portraying a series of modern amazons, who are obviously familiar with the horror genre. This catwalk of angular females embody a variety of stereotypical female roles and each plays her part with the help of Anspoka's uncompromising painting style. There are witches, victims, voodoo queens, waifs, vampires and corpses: catering for a wide variety of tastes! With a restricted colour palette which tends to play on darker versions of primaries: ultramarine, alizarin crimson and yellow ochre, a striking effect of imperial decadence is created. The ochre brings a soft glow from within to the Voodoo Queen's spells with an earthy primal feel. The picture plane is generally fragmented and pattern is a strong feature of Anspoka's work. These stylised Surreal women are painted in a simple, effective style and the effect is sure to catch your eye.
