Linda Griffin

Obviously a past master with watercolours, Linda Griffin uses this subtle medium to great effect across various artistic genres such as seacape, portrait and landscape. Her portrait of Bob Geldof is as creative as it is well observed and it is no surprise that her work is widely collected and that she has completed many successful commissions, especially in portraiture. With Linda's work there are three important attributes to be considered: firstly, no mark is out of place, secondly there is a sense that each painting is totally complete in itself and finally her art successfully captures that inimitable Cornish light.

Geoffrey Hammond

As young and promising artist, Geoffrey Hammond is just beginning to foster his own sense of aesthetic and self expression. Geoffrey only began painting in 2006 and since then has developed a distinct style of painting. With a prolific output he has already created a strong body of work which predominantly focuses on architecture and the interlay of light and shadow. Geoffrey Hammond says that he hopes his work will … "capture my inner feelings and moods at the time of painting".

David Harker

David Harker’s ethereal paintings reflect his conscientious and honest approach to creating his sublime vision of beauty. These paintings aren’t instant but need to be looked at. Gerry Hunt

In recent years I have started each painting with purely formal, open-ended, classical Abstract Expressionist intentions, until some sort of figurative scenario presents itself to me. Whereupon, with as little sacrifice as possible of the pure painting so far achieved, I encourage a believable real scene to emerge. When I drew with charcoal on paper, which is how I first became aware of this possibility in my work, it usually resulted in figures and/or animals, caught in some rather strange and sometimes funny 'in between' situations. Recently, with slowly increasing success, I have begun to achieve this in my paintings. In order to approach the technical simplicity of using just a stick of charcoal, as I do when I draw on paper, while using oil paint on canvas, I have restricted my palette to the three primary colours and white.

Taken from exhibition information "stills from dreams" at the cafe gallery 2003.

Yunus Ibraimov

Yunus Ibraimov exhibits here extremely proficient charcoal drawings from the nude and examples of contrasting approaches to using oils on canvas. "Afternoon" and "Sunny Day" demonstrate a deft facility in the handling of paint with a freshness of stroke and colour that at the same time cleverly represent light and shade. The unexpected accents of lilac and mauve are very appealing. Alternatively, in "Poplars" and "Poplars, Sunset", he reveals a very different mood and method of paint application. The horizontal marks conjure up a bleak, blustery snowscape where the landscape shimmers and appears to melt into an insubstantial haze.

Edyta Ignaczak

Edyta Ignaczak is predominantly a printmaker who uses traditional drawing and printmaking methods as well as exploring advanced digital technology. Using her chosen medium to visually explore a subject or concept, her work is as much about the first mark on the page as it is the last. Through the layering of line and form Ignaczak creates a concentrated sense of history and a transparent sense of discovery in each raw and often emotional piece. Currently living in London her work is in private collections across the South of England.
