Wolf Karpowitz

Wolf Karpowitz conjurs alternative intense worlds in his drawings and paintings. The sheer detail of a city scape that has been captured is overwhelming. The drawings generate a feeling of alienation particularly due to their dense pencil lines, strong unnatural sharp angles and monochromatic colour schemes. This slightly disorientating effect is lifted in his acrylic paintings where not only is there an effective use of primary colours but softer, more organic forms are present. It appears that Karpowitz is detailing two possible environments and the one which is the most desireable is the natural where people can idle time away in sail boats, gardens and inns.

Carole A. Keegan

Carole A. Keegan's figurative work takes it's inspiration from the world around her. "My line drawings, oil and digital paintings take their inspiration from the recesses and corners, the winds and turns of the imagination, from the fantastical with roots in mythology and legend, but also curious modern situations and stances often involving semi-cartoon images of people I meet." Her idiosyncratic reflections on life are perfectly reflected by her black on white pen and ink drawings. Carole A. Keegan's simple and unhesitant line drawings, mythological paintings and abstract digital works, create ornamental versions of people in conversation.

Simon Kenny

The work of Simon Kenny is entrancing and atmospheric. In addition to oils, he makes use of a wide range of media such as copper leaf, structure gel and gold leaf to fully realise his ideas. Inevitably comparisons must be made to Turner or John Martyn's sublime invocations of nature. However, Kenny's allusions are less tied to reality and float freely across a number of possibilities, the title playing a key role in guiding a viewer along a particular chain of concepts. For example "Chronicle" hints at the vastness of time which can simultaneously be something measured yet also in reality exceed measure. Illuminated vaporous clouds and geological formations, described by both paint effects and 3D forms are conjured in elemental tones of earth, fire and sky.

Asra Khan

Asra Khan's pastel drawings have a dream-like quality and are deeply serene and peaceful. Living in Pakistan, her imagery is drawn form her imagination and pictures hint at a simpler kind of living in huts by the sea. Her works depict a range of subjects often incorporating elements from nature but possess titles which are out of the ordinary and thought - provoking concepts such as civillisation and hypocrisy. Asra's works very much appear to arise from the soul and convey a beautiful wistful mood.

Saba  Khan

Recently making a splash in Modern Painters and Aesthetica magazines, Saba Khan's contemporary oil and mixed-media paintings and drawings explore moments in what she describes as "our random, surreal emotional, spiritual, sensual and geopolitical lives". For her, making art is about simultaneously engaging in mind, body, spirit and physical spaces where seen and unseen worlds intermingle and fluctuate. "Concerned about a shiny, artificial, branded geopolitical world where the majority do not benefit, I eventually face an image that is both fragmenting and optimistic, like the beginning of something new yet familiar that had always existed, but was not previously noticed. I work on the principle of the ‘death of the author’, once a work is made, what I have experienced and expressed is dead and the onlooker interacts with a blank canvas where a new world ebbs and flows’.

Rusudan Khizanishvili (gobejishvili )

Rusudan Khizanishvili is a young contemporary artist working in Tbilisi, the Georgian capital. With influences drawn from great artists such as Gauguin and Cezanne, Khizanishvili's work visibly acknowledges the history of painting and the paintings of the great masters. Her confident use of colour, combined with a palpable and often sensuous handling of oil paint demonstrates a maturity beyond her twenty seven years. Rusudan's approach to both the handling of paint and compositional construction reflects a healthy knowledge of what has come before her, while at the same time clearly display a contemporary set of values and codes of practice. Graduating with a painting degree from the Tbilisi state Academy of Art, Rusudan went on to complete an MA in Media in 2005.

Alan King

Alan King's interest in the artists of the Surrealist movement, and his love of architecture, has led him to combine the qualities of computer software and traditional painting techniques to invent bizarre, uncanny environments. Strong, bold, and rich with colour, his digital images are extremely well created. King's technical knowledge and skill combined with his own sense of creativity and talent enables him to freely express what is in his minds eye at the point of creation. This results in some strong, vibrant and vividly surreal landscapes.
