Kristin Erken

Kristin mostly paints on natural materials such as slate and plywood. The rough finish, edges and warp of some of the pieces that she finds, form an integral part of the work. "These paintings try to explore the past 'experience' or 'memory' of the materials I paint on in creating a new window or landscape using their natural forms and textures" says the artist. The natural wood and rock surfaces merge with painterly spaces and the forms of plants, insects, the human body, water, rock and other organic life. The works blur the lines or boundaries between different forms of life, mixing them in a visual soup of line and texture. Objects blend into one another as part of a bigger pattern.

Currently researching and developing in collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces and The Royal Collection, a major project for Kensington Palace for 2013, this is a significantly collectable artist.

Jane Fairhurst

As the title of this latest series of works by Jane Fairhurst suggests, 'Freefall' is a collection of works which picture a small hybrid figure plummeting to its apparent doom. Appropriating images from Hokusai's beautiful 'Small Flower Series' of prints, Fairhurst, then scales up the images by painting them in acrylic on canvas. In Hokusai's prints we see a small bird; in Jane Fairhurst re-works we see a plastic 'Barbie- like' doll with a bird scull for its head and a worryingly angular body. "The paintings hope to reflect both the cultural exchange between Asia, Europe and the U.S.A., brought about through trade, and, 21st century industrialised society's detachment from the natural world…I aim to achieve a level of ambiguity in my work, humour with dark undertones." Jane Fairhurst

Paulo Ferreira

Can an artist live a happy and contented life but yet realise their true creative potential, or does the old adage that an artist must suffer for his art hold true? Paulo Rogerio Bastos Ferreira an artist born in Brazil in the early sixties is a living testament to both sides of the argument. An extensive traveller Paulo began making art out of necessity, both in a creative sense and a financial one and has consistently documented his life through his art, working through the turbulent times in life as well as the happy. His work reflects the highs and lows with equal strength and has shaped a remarkable body of work.

Lesley Finney

Lesley Finney's artwork is not only decorative, with an all-over patterned intensity and is full of surprises."Arctic (aquamarine)" provides a landscape with a very distinctive colour scheme which is highly unusual but feasible. Contrast this with "Priceless" which uses gold leaf and has a relief-like quality but which seems to herald the importance of having a heart. Finally "The Edge of Reason" is an imaginative landscape which at first glance looks like waves, perhaps parting like those of the Red Sea in the biblical story. But it could similarly be cliffs: either way, the viewer is brought up short against a vertical face, the testing of one's limits. This is certainly art that communicates well.

Andrew  Fitchett

Working with oils as a foundation, Andrew brings a sense of abstraction to his work through playing with scale and applying rich textures and surfaces achieved by adding gesso, chalk, ash, charcoal and other materials from the environment he seeks to represent. Contained within powerful compositions that echo his Graphic Design experience in the music industry and finished with an attention to detail reminiscent of Victorian natural history illustration, the paintings become icons and symbols that sum up the character of the Sussex landscape.

Val Flack

A riot of colours clash and collide, creating a soulful impression on the viewer. Val Flack makes work that breathes with life and dances with a bright rhythm across the canvass. In some paintings she uses pale blues and pinks to make her work is soothing and calming, whereas in other works deep reds punctuate the colour scheme, giving heat and verve. A vivid sense of composition means that Flack is able to create paintings that come alive and are full of interesting details. Black or blue geometric shapes sit on top of flowing abstract backgrounds, providing a depth to this art that is hard to ignore. An appreciation of music provides wonderful inspiration as Val Flack endeavours to give her images a sense of cadence. Having exhibited widely across Europe and in the United States over the last twenty years, Flack is now a member of the LondonArt community.
