The Skin around a Soul  -  Thumbnails preview

"Art can never exist without naked beauty displayed".

William Blake

The words of the title are by Richard Corliss, who said “Every artist undresses his subject, whether human or still life. It is his business to find essences in surfaces, and what more attractive and challenging surface than the skin around a soul”. The writer seems to be saying that there is no innocent eye-the viewer is a co-author of an art-work. Moreover, his words can be read as a statement that relation between the corporeal and the spiritual is what makes nude.

In the Middle Ages, the word art had two meanings: something which was made with big attention to detail and something which was artificial. The art of Nude can be defined in both ways because it depicts torn between the soul and the flesh by using the language of culture emphasizing the separation of man from nature.
