Cecelia is a Zimbabwean artist who has been producing paintings for exhibitions and private commission for the last fourteen years. She works with acrylics and oils, in two very different styles. The Southern African theme of totemic culture influences the one body of work. A collage of images sourced from memory, books and photographs are exaggerated and manipulated onto the canvas. The resultant shapes are then blocked in with strong colour, resulting in bold, bright, design-oriented canvases. Surrealist mindscapes explore three-dimensional representation in her other range of paintings. Emphasis in composition is on creating depth, distance and fullness which together with the use of rich, dissonant colour, result in works which have an uncomfortable brooding, edginess to them.
