Colin Ferns

The works shown here by Colin Ferns use watercolour together with ink or pencil. They are drawn from very different landscapes: Delhi and Southwold in Suffolk. Yet both images are extremely prepossessing exhibiting an obvious charm and talented draughtsmanship. Successfully rendering wide vistas of space, he extracts the essence of the scene in deft, confident strokes with an eye for detail.

Jeff Ferst

My abstract paintings have been termed “flamboyant” by the Preston Catalogue, “life-affirming” by sculptor Bruce Flowers and “juicy” by Cambridge Library & Gallery Director Mary Misner.

I paint fluid, tactile and emotional works. Drawing upon the pastoral, architectural and sensory experiences I interact with daily, I have broken down traditional landscape objects and my emotional reaction to them into geometric shapes constructed of color and texture. They are captured on canvas in a play of shapes and color. These collage elements of the mind encompass reality and emotions intertwined.

Lesley Finney

Lesley Finney's artwork is not only decorative, with an all-over patterned intensity and is full of surprises."Arctic (aquamarine)" provides a landscape with a very distinctive colour scheme which is highly unusual but feasible. Contrast this with "Priceless" which uses gold leaf and has a relief-like quality but which seems to herald the importance of having a heart. Finally "The Edge of Reason" is an imaginative landscape which at first glance looks like waves, perhaps parting like those of the Red Sea in the biblical story. But it could similarly be cliffs: either way, the viewer is brought up short against a vertical face, the testing of one's limits. This is certainly art that communicates well.

Andrew  Fitchett

Working with oils as a foundation, Andrew brings a sense of abstraction to his work through playing with scale and applying rich textures and surfaces achieved by adding gesso, chalk, ash, charcoal and other materials from the environment he seeks to represent. Contained within powerful compositions that echo his Graphic Design experience in the music industry and finished with an attention to detail reminiscent of Victorian natural history illustration, the paintings become icons and symbols that sum up the character of the Sussex landscape.

Val Flack

A riot of colours clash and collide, creating a soulful impression on the viewer. Val Flack makes work that breathes with life and dances with a bright rhythm across the canvass. In some paintings she uses pale blues and pinks to make her work is soothing and calming, whereas in other works deep reds punctuate the colour scheme, giving heat and verve. A vivid sense of composition means that Flack is able to create paintings that come alive and are full of interesting details. Black or blue geometric shapes sit on top of flowing abstract backgrounds, providing a depth to this art that is hard to ignore. An appreciation of music provides wonderful inspiration as Val Flack endeavours to give her images a sense of cadence. Having exhibited widely across Europe and in the United States over the last twenty years, Flack is now a member of the LondonArt community.

Kevin Fleming

With thickly handled oil paint, Fleming creates works that contain enough contrasts and texture to keep a viewer coming back for more. By applying the paint so heavily the artist is able to create stylish and affecting works that resonate with energy and life. The colours he uses are bold and wonderful, giving the paintings an affirming warmth and leave the viewer with a lasting glow. His beaches are decorated with tumbling leaves and an array of tiny rocks. The yoke-yellow sand stretches down invitingly to an ocean comprised of a variety of azures. Harbour villages nestle into the cliff face as kite surfers enjoy the day and look forward to the spectacle of sunset. This is feel good art for people who want a slice of the summer sun to hang on their walls. Very competitively priced, this art would make an ideal gift for anyone who appreciates colour, composition and light in their art.
