Anne-Catherine Phillips

The paintings of Anne-Catherine Phillips shown here display an original, inventive choice of subject matter and she has painted some extremely memorable iimages. "Books on Heads" captures the cultural practice of "deportment" and the "finishing school"...the line of figures receding in an enigmatic green space. She captures special moments such as the excitement of family celebrations or trying on a hat in front of a mirror. Yet she also illuminates the everyday: whether it be a barren landscape of sand dunes or someone making the beds.

Dariusz  Piekut

By merging artistic flair with the meticulously handled details of technical drawings, Piekut creates truly original works that show a talented hand and a restless mind. Ever engaging and truly unique, these paintings shine with a geometric accuracy that are reminiscent of fairy tales re-written with a constructivist style. Great imagined cities rise from their baby blue backgrounds and thrust their towers out towards the viewers. Each tiny detail combines to create this world and every inch of the space is used for shapes or shading. Machines and minds collide to create interest and intrigue and the work is equally powerful in black and white or colour. Having been widely exhibited and applauded around central Europe, Piekut has now found a worthy home here at London Art and we are delighted to show his work to the customers of our site.

Mark Pitcher

Mark Pitcher is an expert at illusion. Pitcher's work intentionally alludes to being something that it is not, both in its medium and its subject matter. His technical ability skilfully draws us in to thinking that we are looking at aging black and white photographs or bygone lithography prints, crumpled and a bit tatty - he's even painted in the creases and deterioration one might expect from an image that looks this old. It is almost as if he is using an aesthetic disguise to initially conceal the intensity of the subject matter.

Aleksandra Poplawska

Aleksandra Poplawska is a Panel and Wall Painting Conservationist. Spending days, weeks and months looking at old and often rare paintings has greatly influenced her own art. The attention to fine detail and precise observation required in her work has not only helped her to acquire an empirical knowledge for painting techniques, mediums, and compositional layout but has given her greater understanding of artistic style and expression of thought. It seems obvious to say that her work is not only influenced by her chosen subject but by paint and painting itself.
