Lee McConville

“Most of my work is from my imagination, childhood memories or people I have seen in a world that sometimes seems to border on farce.” Say’s Lee McConville. Exploring the darker side of fairy tales and circus memories McConville is an automatic painter. “What I paint is instinctive and depends on my mood. I never do any preliminary sketches or drawings, I find that my initial excitement is lost if I don't jump straight in and paint.” she says. Specialising in acrylic, watercolour and mixed media, McConville finds that the water based mediums suit her organic and immediate pace.

Kay McDonagh

Kay used to paint a lot, but since she discovered the hand printing press, her focus has shifted to etching. The artist loves portraying animals, which in her work become subjects to learn about, and you are under no illusion that they represent some general truths about human kind. It is not the first time that an artist has personalized animals and spoken through metaphor, but Kay's skilful use of visual humour and sub titles get the messages across.

Noriko Michigami

Born in Japan, Noriko Michigami moved to the UK as a child. "Soon after I began painting in England I became aware that mostly my sense of sensibilities originated in Japan…" She says, adding, " The simplicity and the sense of 'Praise of shadows' and the Japanese traditional concept of 'mono-no-aware' to understand and respond to the appeal of objects to the human heart, effect not only my emotion, but they make my perception". Shaped by her memory and emotions, she is particularly interested in how light and shadow affects the work, both visually and psychologically. Her use of colour, particularly her brown sepia washes, helps to create a strong sense of isolation and melancholy. Noriko Michigami has works in private collections throughout the U.K.
